"The music opens, makes you feel, even your pain, and so it helps you understand that of others". Aurora Aksnes, just turned 23, singer-songwriter and producer, for millions of fans simply Aurora, arrived in Rome a few hours ago.
Wednesday will be staged at the Auditorium Parco della Musica with the songs from the debut album 'All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend' and with the new tracks of '(Reverse)'.
In the interview with the Dire agency, however, she does not only talk about awards won in her Norway, the Roma Summer Fest exclusivity, combinations with Lana Del Rey or Bjork or record views on Youtube. "They compare my voice to that of an angel , perhaps because with those vibrations I make people move and cry," says Aurora. "I feel I express my deepest soul ; and I realize that music gives both responsibility and power: first of all, to help others ".
Not just hits and prizes, from the Spellemannprisen that launched it onwards: there is a link between the notes, the soul and the world.
"With music I learn to know myself, my music knows me better than myself," says the singer. Convinced that there is "even something else out there", above all the possibility of entering into a relationship and crossing borders.
"Music brings us closer because it expresses what we as human beings have in common, our fears, our desires and our needs".
Aurora was born in Stavanger, in the fjords of Norway, where state means services, commitment against exclusion and poverty. And this way of looking at things, the singer takes herself around the world, even in Italy, without worrying too much about passports and borders.
"One is born in one place or another by pure coincidence" responds to those who point out that today we are talking about borders, perhaps even more than in the past. "We must be open to migration , paying attention to the effective capacity to welcome but always ready to share what we have with others".
This is an opening that must feed on trust in others. "I was a little strange girl but also very happy," recalls Aurora from the school and the two older sisters worried that for those fads that 'bizarre companions' could take aim. Bullying episodes, those that took place, did not leave a mark and indeed increased courage.
"In the end love always wins , no matter what path you choose, if you are attracted to a man or a woman," says Aurora, quoting the video of her song 'Queendom': "We simply have to follow our instinct because love it is the only thing we have and we must not imprison him ". We talk about freedom and rights , remembering another girl who came to Rome from Scandinavia.
"Greta Thunberg is right to say that we must act immediately, that the Planet is not ours and that we have borrowed it from our children," says Aurora. Her idea is that, even here, the notes can make the difference: "Most people do not want lessons, but they are ready to engage ; music can inspire and, therefore, it is the most suitable instrument " .
"I haven't forgotten that dark chocolate cone", Aurora Aksnes replies to those who ask her what she missed about Italy. Twenty-three years old, after being sold out in North America, the singer-songwriter of 'Running with the Wolves' is back in Rome for the third time.
But before getting on Wednesday on the auditorium stage of the Auditorium Parco della Musica, she explains to Dire, she wants to take away some culinary treats.
"The first time I came to Italy I was eight," he recalls: "I was with my parents and my sisters Miranda and Viktoria and I tried that chocolate ice cream."
In these Roman days the singer will do an encore. A few years have passed, there was the Spellemannprisen, the Norwegian award that launched it, there were international tours and combinations with Lana Del Rey or Bjork. The walks in Rome, " a capital rich in history in a country full of love" says, however, will retain a special taste. " I will eat a lot without forgetting pizza and gnocchi" says Aurora: "I'll drink wine with bubbles", starting with prosecco.
At the Auditorium on Wednesday, the only summer date in Italy, at the Rome Summer Fest. In the lineup the successes of the debut album is 'All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend' and the new tracks of '(Reverse)'. It will be a return, this time after a few months: at the Auditorium it has already performed in January.
